Five Key Points of Dog Health and Grooming

To make dogs look more "trendy," many owners go to great lengths to groom their dogs. In fact, grooming is not only done at pet salons; owners should also perform detailed care during daily maintenance. This can help dogs become beautiful from the inside out, known as health grooming. To do good health grooming, focus on five key points.
1. Eyes
The eyes are the windows to the soul, and having a pair of bright, watery eyes is every dog's primary desire. If the dog's eyes show redness, swelling, excessive discharge, or mucus buildup at the corners, the owner should immediately take corresponding measures. For common inflammation symptoms, the owner can use a cotton ball dipped in clean water or 2% boric acid to gently wipe away mucus and discharge in or around the dog's eyes. After confirming the area is clean, apply eye drops. Within 1-2 days, the inflammation should subside.
2. Teeth
Although dogs don't need to show eight teeth when smiling, it doesn't mean they don't need dental cleaning. If food debris accumulates in the dog's teeth gaps, it can cause bad breath, and plaque formation can lead to cavities. Owners can use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean the dog's teeth and gums, and floss can be used to remove food debris between teeth. Generally, teeth cleaning should be done once a week.
3. Ears
Under normal circumstances, owners only need to clean the ear canal with a cotton ball. However, if they find inflammation, redness, or an unpleasant odor in the dog's ear, it is best to take the dog to a pet hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Many dogs have long hair that can cover some symptoms, so owners should develop a habit of regular checks.
4. Rear
Many abnormal behaviors in dogs indicate potential problems. For example, some owners think a dog scooting its rear is normal, but that is not the case. The common reason for scooting is that the dog's anal glands have not been cleaned for a long time and need timely cleaning. Additionally, if the hair around the dog's rear sticks to very loose feces, it indicates recent digestive issues that require the owner's attention.
5. Nails
Dog nails grow quickly, and if they are not trimmed for a period, they can accidentally hurt the owner or other dogs. Usually, owners should trim the dog's nails once a month. It is best to use specialized dog clippers and then file the nails smooth afterwards. Be careful not to cut the dog's quick; if accidentally cut, apply Yunnan Baiyao or iodine immediately to prevent infection.
