Fierce Pit Bulls, Should They Be Raised
This morning, everyone was probably flooded by a piece of news: a pit bull in heat in Yichang, Hubei, attacked its foster owner on the street and was shot dead by police with three shots. Once this news came out, it triggered very intense discussions. Here, the editor of Boqiwang will not inquire who is right or wrong, but wants to tell everyone what we should do to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Fierce Pit Bulls
On July 18th, a police officer from Gulou Street Police Station in Yichang, Hubei, confirmed that in the morning, a middle-aged man was walking a dog when it went into heat and later was bitten. The offending pit bull was being fostered in the man's home entrusted by a friend. After receiving the report, and with the original dog's owner's consent, the police fired three shots killing the dog. Another smaller pit bull was also shot dead. The injured has now no life-threatening condition.
Pit bulls are friendly and loyal only to their own owners, but they have strong vigilance and some aggression toward strangers. An excellent pit bull should have an intimidating physique, indomitable will, long-lasting endurance, extremely strong bite force, agility, and a brain capable of thinking. Because the dog has no nerve endings under its skin, once it bites, it will not let go, and even if it loses mobility, it is very difficult to separate it from the bitten person. Therefore, although pit bulls are not large dogs, they are fierce dogs and are banned in most cities.
Therefore, the editor does not recommend raising pit bulls in the city as there are many risk factors. Currently, pit bulls are mainly used for competitions and fighting performances and are not suitable as pets. However, if pit bulls or similar fierce or large dogs are raised at home, please remember to always use a leash when going out, wear a muzzle to prevent sudden attacks on passersby or owners. Neutering is also recommended, which will reduce the aggressiveness during heat periods.
The shooting death of the pit bull may pain many people. But as responsible owners, we must understand that the life of a dog is very important to us, and the life of others must be respected equally. While raising dogs, we must also abide by all rules. Civilized pet raising is a responsibility to ourselves, the dogs, and others.
