Dog Training Methods, Different Methods for Different Dogs

Every pet dog is kept in a cage at the pet store with no rules or tasks, but once we adopt the pet dog home, we must start training immediately; otherwise, the dog will develop bad habits that are difficult to correct. In the dog’s mind, it does not know whether what it does is right or wrong, so the owner must slowly educate and train it. So how should the training be done? Let’s take a look!

Dog toileting is also a big issue. When the owner and dog go out for a walk and the dog suddenly needs to relieve itself, the owner should allow it to defecate outside and encourage it with words or actions to do so outdoors. If the dog fails once, the owner should not be anxious but patiently teach the dog multiple times to go outside to relieve itself. After repeated training, the dog will know that toileting outside is praiseworthy. When the dog is about to defecate indoors, the owner should neither scold nor hit the dog but should use a serious tone to command the dog: go relieve yourself outside. Facing a serious command, the dog will consciously go out to relieve itself, and the owner should praise the dog after obeying the command—this is the correct behavior.

If the dog accidentally defecates indoors and the owner punishes it, this is very detrimental to the emotional bond between owner and dog. This will make the dog fearful of the owner. Without encouraging outdoor toileting, the dog may resort to defecating in small corners of the house, so positive and useful methods should be used to correct the dog’s mistakes. When the dog just arrives at the new home, if the owner doesn’t know how often the dog needs to go to the toilet, a day can be specially set aside to test the dog. Puppies under sixteen weeks generally go to the toilet every two hours. The owner can use this time to train the dog to go every four hours, gradually developing the dog’s bladder control potential.

A six-month-old dog is like our little children, very curious about new things. A dog that normally goes every four hours may forget to go to the toilet because of some small incident, proving its bladder control potential can still be expanded, possibly to seven hours between toileting. These results all depend on the owner’s training. Training older dogs like this consumes a lot of time, so owners should start training dogs from a young age.
