Does your dog have these bad habits? Everyone who raises dogs knows that dogs can sometimes be very cute, sometimes very gentle, but sometimes quite naughty. Of course, dogs have quite a few bad habits, so strict training should start early. So does your dog have the following bad habits?

1. Chewing

Does your dog have these bad habits? All puppies will chew. Adult dogs do too, either due to lack of education or boredom. The first step you should take is environmental management. Don’t leave things your dog can chew around it until the problem improves. Then, have appropriate chew toys ready nearby, and once your dog starts chewing other things, exchange those for the ones you prepared.

2. Jumping on people

Does your dog have these bad habits? Dogs don’t think jumping on people is bad——they want to greet you, and nine times out of ten, they get attention when they jump. The solution lies here. If you don’t want your dog to jump, don’t give it any attention (positive or negative) when it jumps, even if it pesters you repeatedly. Just turn around and ignore it. When all four paws are on the ground, turn back and give it affection and praise.

3. Barking

Does your dog have these bad habits? Barking is a big problem, and dogs bark for many reasons. To stop barking, you first need to understand why your dog is barking. If it barks out of fear, stress, or aggression, you need to seek help from a professional dog trainer. If your dog barks when hearing sounds (such as doorbell, knocking, children playing), you’ll need to do sound desensitization training. Start at low volume, rewarding your dog with toys or treats if it doesn’t bark. Gradually increase the volume until you can train your dog with the real sounds.

4. Indoor urination and defecation

Does your dog have these bad habits? This might be the most frustrating issue and the most common reason for abandonment of adopted dogs every year. If it’s an untrained puppy or senior dog, you should start by limiting their activity area (begin with a small space, expanding it gradually after success). Feed on schedule so you can predict when to take it outside to relieve itself. Also take your dog out after play, naps, or large drinks. Do not punish! Old methods recommend snapping the dog’s nose or spanking, which only frighten the dog and cause it to hide when it needs to urinate, without preventing accidents indoors.

5. Biting immediately

Does your dog have these bad habits? All puppies bite your shoe heels and feet when you walk by, and bite your hands when playing with them. This is a common issue. Reward your dog for not biting. You can also give a chewing toy to satisfy its chasing and biting desire.

6. Pulling behavior

Does your dog have these bad habits? This is another common complaint. The best solution is to stop moving when your dog pulls. Wait for it to return, then continue walking. Praise and give treats when your dog stays by your side. You can also use training tools. The key is not to let the dog gain anything from pulling, as this rewards bad behavior. Instead, stop and wait for it to come back before continuing to its desired destination. With this method, your dog can learn that the best way to go anywhere is without pulling.

7. Stealing food

Does your dog have these bad habits? Stealing food is not only annoying but can be dangerous if the ingredients are harmful to dogs. The best way is to teach your dog the commandsLeave itandDrop it(sometimes “Leave it” comes too late, so “Drop it” is needed). While training, keep training food out of reach so the dog won’t eat it accidentally.

Does your dog have these bad habits? All dogs are like this; with enough patience, you can definitely train an excellent and obedient dog. Don’t expect your dog to be obedient without any training; obedient dogs start education early.
