Do Not Ignore Excessive Eye Discharge in Labradors
Labrador
A healthy Labrador looks very spirited and lively, with a pair of clear, bright eyes. If your Labrador suddenly has an increase in eye discharge, what could be causing it, and how should it be resolved? How can you help your Labrador remove the eye discharge and restore its bright eyes?
There are many causes of excessive eye discharge in Labradors, such as heatiness, eye inflammation, ingrown eyelashes, tear gland blockage, canine distemper, and so on. If you notice an abnormal increase in your Labrador's eye discharge, do not ignore it. Take your dog for a check-up and diagnosis, then have the eye discharge professionally removed and treated.
Diseases like eye inflammation, tear gland blockage, canine distemper, and others must be treated promptly. Whether it is medication or surgical treatment, you should actively cooperate with the veterinarian and make timely decisions. For example, congenital tear gland blockage or ingrown eyelashes in Labradors must be treated with surgery, as ordinary medication or dietary therapy usually does not have much effect. Mild eye inflammation or heatiness can be treated with medication combined with diet adjustments to achieve therapeutic effects.
Besides timely treatment, daily care of your Labrador's eyes is also important. Clean the eyes once a day with warm water or 2% boric acid solution. Note that using chloramphenicol eye drops to wash the eyes can prevent glaucoma caused by long-term excessive eye discharge. You can also buy some eye drops and put a few drops into your Labrador's eyes daily to prevent inflammation.
