Choosing food for dogs has already made many owners dazzled, and owners with selection anxiety hesitate among major brands. Let me tell you the classification and uses of dog food.
Dog food is divided into staples and snacks. The staples mainly include dry food and canned food, while the snacks include large biscuits, deodorizing biscuits, beef jerky, etc. For dogs’ growth needs, nutritional components in various brands are mostly similar; expensive ones have special food formulas with different considerations for various ages and breeds, so you can compare them thoroughly in advance.
Dog food should be given according to the dog’s age and actual condition to avoid disharmony. The nutritional content of dry food is relatively stable and balanced; dogs can clean dental calculus and relieve itching by chewing it. However, if there are urinary stones problems, one should try to avoid dry food unless it is a prescription diet specifically for stones.
The difference in canned food depends on its price, nutritional content, and quality of ingredients. The advantage of canned food is that vitamins are less likely to be lost and it has better palatability. With advantages come disadvantages: canned food contains more meat, causing stronger fecal odor and tends to cause dental calculus after long-term consumption. Dry food, while not as tasty as canned food, is easier to digest and absorb, and feces smell less.
Snacks can be used for dog training as a reward for obedience. However, people’s snacks should not be frequently given to dogs, as it can spoil their appetite.
