We all know that seafood contains many nutrients that our human bodies need, and regularly eating some seafood has certain benefits for our health. Especially people living in coastal areas like to eat seafood. But can dogs eat seafood, and can they eat shrimp? Let’s learn whether shrimp is harmful to dogs.

In fact, dogs cannot eat seafood, nor can they eat shrimp. Although seafood contains rich protein, its salt content is much higher than ordinary food, and excessive salt intake has certain effects on dogs’ health. Dogs cannot eat salt; shrimp with high salt content can damage dogs’ kidney function. Moreover, seafood contains some substances that cause allergies in dogs, which can lead our dogs to develop allergic dermatitis, causing redness and pimples on their skin. In addition, deep-sea shrimp contains high amounts of vitamin A, which can cause vitamin A toxicity in dogs, so dogs should not consume shrimp.

Also, dogs cannot fully digest shrimp shells. Shrimp shells are generally very hard, and if dogs eat them, they may tear the lining of the small intestine, causing bloody stools, and in severe cases, infections. We should also avoid feeding dogs overly salty or greasy food, such as leftover meals, commercial processed food, etc., and not feed them these regularly. Long-term consumption will shorten dogs’ lifespans. Dogs should also not eat excessively sweet food. If dogs often eat sweets, they easily become obese, which lowers their immunity, making them prone to other diseases. Furthermore, eating sweets damages dogs’ fur, making it dull and even causing hair loss.

Now we know that dogs cannot eat seafood or shrimp, especially hard-shelled shrimp. When it comes to dogs’ diet, everyone needs to be very careful because illness often starts from the mouth. Accidentally eating something harmful can be very serious. Therefore, dog owners must pay close attention when feeding dogs human food, as some things dogs cannot eat.
