Are the habits of Golden Retrievers really like what you think?

Golden Retrievers are very common in our lives, and their gentle and calm temperament has brought us a lot of joy. If you want to raise a Golden Retriever, the first thing to do is of course to understand its habits. The editor has collected some knowledge about Golden Retriever habits, let's see if they are what you expect.

First of all, Golden Retrievers have certain territorial instincts, are afraid of fire, and like to live in groups. They enjoy living with people or other animals and do not like to be alone. Other animals in the household such as cats or chickens can get along peacefully with the dog and receive its protection after some time. Dogs are especially afraid of loneliness, so try not to leave your beloved dog alone for long periods. When the dog is locked at home all day and sees its owner return, you can imagine how excited it is.

Golden Retrievers can sometimes be vain and like to be praised. Sometimes they are shy and seem never to forget the voice of those who have had close contact with them, also remembering places where they have lived. They like to be petted on the neck and back. When lying down, they always turn around to check for dangers; only after confirming safety will they sleep peacefully. When sick, instinctively they will avoid humans or other dogs, hiding in dark places to recover or die, which is a kind of "atavistic phenomenon." They dislike alcohol the most and are carnivorous animals; in feeding, more animal protein and fat should be included in their diet, supplemented with vegetables to ensure normal development and a healthy body. They do not chew much when eating and can be described as "wolfing down" their food. If feeding high-fiber vegetables, it's best to chop or cook them.

Although you love your Golden Retriever very much, do not let your little Golden Retriever frequently eat human leftovers, especially oily foods, which are not good for Golden Retrievers. For Golden Retriever puppies younger than four and a half months, do not let them climb stairs on their own. Also be careful when they get in and out of cars; if the height from the ground is too high (such as the trunk), do not let them jump down alone but carry them.

Before 12 months old, do not take Golden Retriever puppies for running, as this will put too much pressure on their not yet fully calcified bones. After 12 months, if you want to run with your Golden Retriever, remember not to run too far at first; gradually increase the running distance. Golden Retriever puppies should not eat too much. It’s best to feed softened dog food and avoid eggs and offal, which they cannot digest and may cause diarrhea. Generally, some dog food can be put in rice porridge for feeding.

What are the misunderstandings in raising Golden Retrievers?

Misunderstanding 1: Dogs with bad tempers like to bite. Actually, no. Although Golden Retrievers have canine blood, after hundreds of years of great human domestication and improvement, purebred Golden Retrievers have very tolerant and obedient temperaments! The characteristics of dogs are mostly reflected in their appearance rather than personality, so they have securely settled in the category of family dogs!

Misunderstanding 2: Golden Retrievers have low intelligence? NO, Golden Retrievers are actually quite intelligent and respond strongly to their owner’s emotions. They also have a retrieving nature, making fetch training very easy!

Misunderstanding 3: Must turn on the air conditioner in summer? Air conditioning is generally used in areas with poor ventilation as a cooling method. The recommended way to cool is ventilation; if natural ventilation is insufficient, then use air conditioning for Golden Retrievers! (Source: PetsZone)
