A Good Dog Cannot Come Out Under the 'Stick'
Australian Shepherd
Dogs are very intelligent, but of course intelligence is limited, so we should not impose too high demands on dogs. Making mistakes is human nature, so sometimes we need to learn to be tolerant with dogs. Of course, if they make mistakes, they should be criticized and taught to correct their faults. However, the method of correction is very important; "hitting" is never the way we advocate. Educating dogs requires much more patience in order to be effective.
Dogs defecating everywhere is usually the most headache-inducing problem for owners. Many owners often resort to severe physical punishment because dogs repeatedly do not change their behavior. Some owners even beat their dogs whenever they make mistakes. This kind of correction method is highly discouraged. Moreover, the effects of such correction are often minimal. Over time, the dog may develop fear of its owner, distancing itself and even developing some hatred, eventually increasingly ignoring your commands.
How to properly teach dogs about defecation issues. Dogs generally have regular defecation times, mostly in the morning, after meals, and before bedtime, while puppies defecate more frequently, about once every 3 to 4 hours. Usually, dogs need to be taken outside several times a day, with a command given to defecate in designated spots, training them through conditioned reflex. When it’s time to defecate, the dog will go automatically to the designated spot. Sometimes, dogs who were successfully trained may defecate everywhere again. This may be due to changes in physical condition, old age, illness, drinking a lot of water, or stress caused by seeing strangers or other dogs. If the dog defecates indiscriminately for several consecutive days, it might have gastrointestinal or bladder problems and should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. This is the method to train a dog to defecate outdoors.
