8 Foods Samoyeds Cannot Eat
Beware: 8 Foods Samoyeds Cannot Eat
Many foods are absolutely forbidden for Samoyeds:
For example, milk, small bones, chicken liver, and so on. Although these foods are fine for humans and are nutritious, they are very harmful to Samoyeds. If a Samoyed eats these foods, mild cases cause diarrhea and vomiting, and severe cases can lead to urinary incontinence, convulsions, or even death.
Samoyed Dog (Detailed Introduction)
1. List of Foods Samoyeds Cannot Eat
(1) Frozen milk. Samoyeds cannot drink milk because dogs' stomachs cannot tolerate lactose, and milk is high in lactose (dog milk is fine because it’s low lactose). So if a Samoyed puppy drinks milk, it cannot be absorbed, leading to lowered immunity, with diarrhea as an early sign.
(2) Meat high in fat, as well as sour, spicy, salty, and other irritating foods. These all stimulate a Samoyed's stomach and are not recommended. Spices like ginger, curry powder, chili, and other irritating seasonings should not be given to dogs.
(3) Chicken liver, etc.: Animal livers contain large amounts of vitamin A. Long-term excessive feeding of liver causes vitamin A accumulation in the body. When the level exceeds four times the liver’s capacity, it becomes toxic, causing Samoyeds' limbs to swell, pain, lameness, even nervous paralysis, hind limb paralysis, and loss of bladder and bowel control.
(4) Never let Samoyeds eat chocolate; severe cases can cause urinary incontinence, epilepsy, and other symptoms.
(5) Small bones: Large and medium-sized young Samoyeds can be fed big bones rich in calcium, but never chicken, fish, or duck bones, especially to Samoyed puppies, to prevent choking or damage to the throat or esophagus.
(6) Pastries: Generally, do not feed dogs pastries.
(7) Do not feed Samoyeds squid, shellfish, shiitake mushrooms, or other hard-to-digest foods, as these can cause diarrhea or vomiting.
(8) Do not feed Samoyeds foods containing preservatives, such as ham sausage, sausages, squid shreds, and so on.
2. Basic Feeding Precautions for Samoyeds
(1) Do not feed Samoyeds leftovers. Many people believe human food is very nutritious or want to avoid waste or save time by feeding leftovers to dogs. However, leftovers often contain sharp fish bones or other bones that can injure the Samoyed’s mouth and lead to infection in severe cases. For your Samoyed’s safety, do not be lazy and feed them leftovers.
(2) Pay attention to heating food before feeding Samoyeds. Animal food, grain food, or vegetables should be cleaned and heated to prevent poisoning, especially in summer when food spoils faster.
