Why Do Cats Have Bad Breath

Russian Blue Cat
1. Tartar (Dental Calculus)
Try to help it develop a good habit of brushing its teeth. Find an assistant who gently lifts the cat’s upper lip upward with the index finger and thumb (the assistant’s palm above the cat’s head, using appropriate force; of course, the other hand should hold the cat securely). You use your index finger to press lightly downward on the cat’s lower incisors, then use a children’s toothbrush soaked in saline water to clean the cat’s teeth once a week.
2. Oral Ulcers
This may be caused by oral infection. Frequently feeding cats soft food and canned food can easily cause tooth decay. These foods promote tartar formation around cat teeth, leading to gingivitis. Bacteria entering the tooth sockets cause periodontal disease. The result is loose teeth and nerve death, at which point tooth extraction is necessary.
3. Food with Strong Odor
4. Indigestion
If the cat has mild indigestion, you can feed smaller and more frequent meals of fresh, high-quality cat food. Taking human anti-acid tablets may be effective (of course, only after diagnosis and with the doctor’s approval).
5. Constipation and Diarrhea Can Also Cause Bad Breath
It may be due to vitamin deficiency. There are many types of vitamin B, all of which are very important for cats. Feeding too much heavily processed food can lead to vitamin B1 deficiency, with symptoms including convulsions and strokes. Over-processing destroys vitamin B6, causing weight loss, anemia, and convulsions. Vitamin B complex injections, yeast tablets, and various vitamin B tablets can treat vitamin B deficiency.
Treatment for cat bad breath requires diagnosis by a veterinarian in a pet hospital and treatment according to the doctor’s instructions. (Source:PetsZone)
