When the weather changes drastically, cats are very prone to catching colds. Once a cat catches a cold, owners will be very worried. When cats catch a cold, you should not give medicine immediately; instead, analyze what type of cold the cat has and then give medicine accordingly. So what should we do when a cat catches a cold?

Cat colds often manifest as lethargy, a preference for lying on the floor sleeping, a runny nose, fear of sunlight. The cat’s eyes may be half-closed and unable to open, with frequent tearing; they also start to lose appetite. There may be some eye discharge, and the nose is usually dry and sometimes warm. If the cat's cold is not serious and is a simple cold, at this time we can give the cat a quarter dose of children's cold medicine, which can effectively help treat the cat's cold. If the cat has nasal discharge and eye discharge, we can use a cotton swab dipped in eye drops to clean it.

If the cat's cold is more serious, we need to pay attention to keeping the cat warm. Place a thick blanket in the cat’s bed, and it is best to cover the cat with a small quilt, which helps the cat stay warm. After we have taken care of the cat, we should take the cat to the veterinary hospital to inquire about the illness. Generally, the doctor will prescribe some medicine for the cat. We must ask clearly about the timing and frequency of the cat’s medication. When back home, we should let the cat rest in a quiet environment while also keeping it warm. We need to let the cat drink more water and prepare some nutritious food for the cat. Actually, cats have strong self-healing abilities and should recover in about two or three days.

The above is what we should do when a cat catches a cold. When the weather changes drastically, we must keep the cat warm to reduce the chance of catching a cold. We also need to feed the cat nutritious food to improve its resistance. During kittenhood, we must vaccinate the cat; otherwise, catching a cold can be very dangerous for cats.
