If you list some common cat breeds, short-haired cats and Siamese cats are easy to name, but if you ask what kind of cat the Cymric cat is, few people would know. Studies have found that the Cymric cat is indeed related to the Manx cat!

　　The name Cymric cat comes from the English Celtic language. It is the long-haired variety of the tailless Manx cat, hence also called the long-haired Manx cat. In 1960, a purebred short-haired Manx cat in Canada suddenly gave birth to the first Cymric cat. Controlled by a recessive long-hair gene, breeding two Cymric cats results in 100% offspring with Cymric traits.

　　However, since inbreeding tailless cats can lead to lethal factors, breeding Cymric cats often uses parents with either straight tails or taillessness for crossing.

　　The Cymric cat has a medium size, sturdy bone structure, and well-developed muscles, with a round head and strong chest and hip muscles. Because its hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs, its walking style is the same hopping gait as the Manx cat. The Cymric has a double coat, with medium-length undercoat and top protective hair. Newborn kittens look almost identical to Manx kittens, but after 3–4 weeks, the Cymric’s undercoat grows rapidly, and the long tufts of hair on the ears differ noticeably from the Manx. The Cymric’s coat colors are rich and diverse, with over 30 recognized colors to date.

　　As a branch of the Manx cat, the Cymric cat inherits the Manx’s characteristics. The most notable Manx trait is the tailless or short tail, followed by a round head, round muzzle, round eyes, and round ears. The face is small and pointed, with an oriental slender body shape, pointed muzzle, long silky single-layer coat, a slender waist, and thin limbs. Because the Manx has strong limbs and a distinctive hopping gait like a rabbit, it is also called the "rabbit cat." The Manx cat originates from the Isle of Man between England and Northern Ireland and has a long history. As early as 1901, there was a Manx cat club in England, and it is said that King Edward VII kept several Manx cats. The Manx cat has a gentle temperament, is smart and lively, easy to train, and adept at climbing trees. The Manx is one of the most active cat breeds and can play fetch like a dog.

　　The adorable Manx cat is medium-sized, with its most distinctive feature being the lack of a tail. It has a short and chubby body type, with a round face and limbs. Its appearance is somewhat rabbit-like, with a shorter spine causing its body to form an arc shape from the side. Its hind legs are longer than the front legs, with the hips higher than the shoulders. The coat is soft like cotton and looks fluffy and pleasant to touch, with a strong bone structure and powerful muscles.
