What Does a One-Month-Old Kitten Eat? Diet Recipe for Newborn Kittens
Kittens are generally weaned after about one month, so how should you care for a kitten that just turned one month old? Having left its mother's milk, what should it eat? The editor reveals the answer for you.
Everyone knows cats are carnivores; they like to eat fish and meat. However, a kitten just one month old certainly should not eat fish and meat carelessly. Such foods can cause difficulty in chewing and put a burden on their intestines. More importantly, eating only fish and meat can cause calcium deficiency, which is very detrimental to their development.
Many pet owners continue to give milk after the kitten is weaned. However, remember that you should not give cow's milk to kittens. Like dogs, cats cannot drink cow's milk. For the kitten's comprehensive nutrition, it is recommended to give it goat's milk. Goat's milk is less likely to cause allergies and allows better absorption by the kitten. Some kittens drink goat's milk from a bottle, while others seem unable to use a bottle at all. At this time, a syringe is needed—of course, without the needle. Draw the goat's milk into the syringe, then slowly inject the milk into the kitten's mouth. Remember to go slowly to avoid choking the kitten.
Besides goat's milk, a one-month-old kitten can also eat some other soft foods. You can soak plain white steamed bread in boiling water until it becomes soft, then feed small pieces to the kitten. At this stage, the kitten may not be willing to eat by itself and may need the owner to open its mouth and feed it. Steamed bread soaked in boiling water is easier for the kitten to absorb and digest and won't burden its stomach. Additionally, it helps to exercise the kitten's swallowing ability.
When the kitten gets a little older, for better nutrition, we should also give it some minced meat—very finely minced meat. Cook the minced meat, preferably with a bit more water, then use a cotton swab to feed the kitten. Although it looks like a very small amount, as long as the kitten can fully digest and absorb it, the nutrition is sufficient.
Also, you can feed the kitten eggs; the preparation is roughly the same as minced meat. After cooking the eggs, mash them finely using a tool and feed the kitten with the same method.
A one-month-old kitten has just left its mother. We should give it more security and take good care of it. When it grows up, it will happily accompany us.
