What Are the Common Diseases of Old Cats?
Norwegian Forest Cat
Oral cavity and teeth
Tooth loss makes chewing difficult, so food must be prepared to be easy to eat. Thick tartar makes the teeth prone to loosen and fall out, and can even damage the inner oral wall, causing ulcers. Tartar more easily leads to periodontal inflammation. Do not overlook that periodontal inflammation may cause infections throughout the body. Have the veterinarian carefully clean the tartar and extract all rotten teeth. Old cats often greatly reduce their appetite due to tooth pain and oral inflammation.
Constipation
Reduced physical activity, decreased appetite, and less intake of liquid water make them prone to constipation. Regularly brushing their fur helps reduce hairball obstruction. Constipation should not be taken lightly; if severe, the ileum and rectum often become overstretched and lose elasticity, causing feces to become as hard as large stone pillars, making it impossible to pass. This can result in the stomach and small intestine being unable to move normally, easily causing loss of appetite, vomiting, and acid reflux.
