Training Method for Cats to Urinate and Defecate in the Litter Box
Training cats to urinate and defecate in a fixed litter box is a task that owners must complete. This is also the first step to ensuring harmonious coexistence between cats and family members. Training cats to use the litter box requires mastering practical methods and skills, which owners also need to learn.
1. Owners need to prepare a litter box first. You can buy a special cat litter box at a pet store, or you can use other containers as substitutes by placing an appropriate amount of cat litter inside. Then gently place the cat next to the pre-prepared litter box, lightly pat its head and buttocks to signal that it should relieve itself there, and then pull its tail three times to emphasize that it should urinate or defecate there in the future.
2. A very key part of the training process is to observe the cat’s behavior carefully. Once you notice it circling or sniffing the floor, it means it wants to relieve itself. At this moment, the owner should promptly guide it to the litter box and pat its head to indicate it can go ahead.
3. Generally, after several times of forced training, the cat will remember the litter box and try to relieve itself in this fixed place. Of course, before the cat develops this habit, the owner should persistently continue the training and closely monitor the cat's behavior until the pet forms a conditioned reflex and can urinate and defecate in the fixed litter box, then the formal training can be concluded.
