Principles to Uphold When Training Cats
Norwegian Forest Cat
1. Never use violence
Forcing a cat to sniff water with its nose is a famous example of violent treatment; never do this. This practice severely harms cats and can cause urinary incontinence. Also, do not hit cats with newspapers or other light objects, as they will remember and immediately avoid you when they see you again. If punishment is truly necessary, such as forbidding the cat from getting on the dining table but it jumps up, you should not stand by smiling. Instead, you must clearly indicate it is not allowed. Chase it off or spray water on it with a watering can; this will clearly show that something is forbidden. If the cat scratches your hand, you can yowl in a cat-like way. Although this might seem funny to you, it is a clear, unmistakable signal.
