Pet Cat Marriage Is a Big Matter and Also Needs Caution

1. Choosing a Mate
Free love is good, but not suitable for cats. Cats themselves do not understand eugenics and quality breeding, so the owner has to control it well. Generally speaking, purebred cat breeding must select purebred cats of the same breed, so that the offspring will have pure bloodlines.
When choosing a suitable mate for your female cat, consider whether the male cat's body size matches the female’s. If the female is petite and delicate, and the male is big and rough, it may cause dystocia due to large fetuses during delivery.
2. Preparation Before Marriage
If your cat has matured and found a suitable partner, it is time to prepare for mating. Before mating, you must ensure the tomcat’s nutrition so that he can produce high-quality semen, and the kittens will be healthy and lively.
For a female cat mating for the first time, as she lacks experience, she may attack the tomcat after mating. Be sure to trim her claws to avoid scratching the tomcat.
3. Choosing the Bridal Chamber
Choosing the bridal chamber is necessary when cats mate. It should be a quiet place with minimal external interference. Generally, bringing the female cat to the tomcat’s room makes mating easier to succeed.
4. Cats Mating, Owner’s Assistance
Don’t think everything is settled just by sending the bride and groom into the bridal chamber. Actually, inexperienced female cats resist the tomcat mounting them, won’t cooperate, and sometimes attack the tomcat. At this time, the owner needs to help hold the female cat, restraining her forelimbs and neck, preventing her from biting or scratching the tomcat, helping the mating process. In fact, many tomcats need assistance, and once injured by the female cat, they often temporarily lose mating interest.
5. How to Judge if Mating Is Successful
During mating, a skilled tomcat will firmly bite the female’s neck, lie on top of her, and mating typically takes 1 to 10 minutes. The female cat will emit a loud cry after mating finishes, then turn around to attack the tomcat. After the tomcat moves away, the female will start rolling constantly and licking her genital area. This indicates successful mating, now just wait to hold the grandchildren.
6. Regarding Interbreed Marriage
In purebred cat breeding, besides breeding among the same breed, crossbreeding is allowed between some purebred cats, such as Siamese cats and Oriental Shorthair cats, Scottish Fold cats and British Shorthair or American Shorthair cats, Exotic Shorthair cats and Persian cats, Abyssinian cats and Somali cats. The offspring of these crossbreeds are recognized by authoritative cat associations.
