Methods to Train Cats to Stand Gracefully
British Shorthair Cat
First, place the cat on a small table, letting its hind legs be near the edge of the table. Release your hold; the cat, fearing a fall, will soften its limbs and try to lie down. At this time, use one hand to support its chest or chin, and with the other hand gently pull the cat’s tail backward. Be careful not to pull just the tail fur to avoid pain. The hand supporting the chest should also push backward, preventing the cat from sitting down. When the cat realizes its hind legs will lose support and stepping backward will lead to falling, it instinctively leans its body forward, straightens upward, firmly plants its forelimbs, tightens its toes, presenting a standard posture with all four limbs straight and head held high and chest out. By repeating this method multiple times, the cat learns it; afterward, even when standing on flat ground, if we pull the tail backward, the cat will reflexively display the standard graceful posture.
