Methods for Prevention and Treatment of Cat Conjunctivitis
(1) Acute conjunctivitis: First, use a non-irritating lukewarm medicinal solution to rinse; cats commonly use 2% boric acid solution. Keep in a dark room to reduce irritation. For anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, use prednisolone acetate eye drops, applying every 4-6 hours, combined with antibiotic eye drops. During the day, use penicillin eye drops and chloramphenicol eye drops, applying every 2-3 hours. At night, use aureomycin and oxytetracycline eye ointment. Acute conjunctivitis can also be treated with subconjunctival injection; commonly used drugs are 0.25% procaine hydrochloride 100 ml combined with 800,000 units of penicillin.
(2) Chronic conjunctivitis: Focus on stimulation and warm compresses. Cats commonly use 1-2% silver nitrate solution eye drops or gently wipe the upper and lower eyelid conjunctiva with a copper sulfate stick. Then immediately rinse with 2% boric acid water.
(3) Purulent conjunctivitis treatment methods are the same as acute conjunctivitis. Viral conjunctivitis can be treated with Bingqingling eye drops or 5% sulfacetamide sodium eye ointment applied inside the eye. (Source:PetsZone)
