Let Cats Develop the Habit of Contacting Humans
Persian Cat
How to prevent from biting and scratching? First, start young to cultivate good habits of contact with humans, letting them know which behaviors their owner dislikes. When a kitten unconsciously grabs your finger and bites while playing, you can loudly scold or make an angry sound, while immediately tapping gently on their head (be careful with the strength, not too hard to avoid resentment, not too light or they’ll think you are playing), then offer your finger again; often, out of a retaliatory instinct, they will bite you again, at which point tap their head again and offer the finger once more... repeat four or five times until they no longer bite hard but just gently hold your finger in their mouth.
Next time they bite, use this method again, and within about a month it usually produces good results. Of course, the cat’s need to grind teeth and play must be taken into account, so you can prepare some toys for them, such as crumpled paper balls, cat-specific toy mice, etc., so the kitten can release energy and satisfy the instinct to bite.
So how to teach kittens not to use their claws when interacting with people? The principle is the same: when they eat eagerly and anxiously from your hand and accidentally scratch you, make an angry sound or loudly scold them to let them know you dislike this behavior. When playing with cats, try not to hold toys directly with your hands. Cats do not have a gentle touch while playing, and their reaction speed is faster than humans, often catching you unprepared. You can tie a toy to a long string or tie a string to the end of a slender stick (about as long as two chopsticks joined), attaching the toy at the string’s end to tease the cat. This prevents them from scratching your hand.(Source:PetsZone)
