Judging Whether a Cat is Pregnant from Body Changes

Shandong Lion Cat
After a female cat in heat mates naturally or by artificial insemination, eggs meet sperm in the fallopian tubes and fertilization occurs. Pregnant cats no longer exhibit heat cycles; if pregnancy does not occur, heat returns in about 21 days.
After becoming pregnant, the female cat becomes cautious in movement, gradually eats more, and prefers to rest lying down in quiet, warm, and bright places rather than being active.
Pregnant cats also sleep more and like to lie stretched out. About 20 days into pregnancy, the nipples gradually turn pink and the breasts begin to enlarge.
At about one month pregnant, the abdominal circumference starts to increase. After one month, you can gently grab the skin on the cat’s neck with your left hand, while using your right thumb, index, and middle fingers to carefully and softly feel from back to front on both sides of the linea alba, palpating deep into the abdominal cavity. You can feel spherical embryos, 2 to 3 centimeters in diameter and elastic. Around 50 days into pregnancy, the fetuses have developed and can be distinctly felt during palpation.
However, palpation should be done carefully and gently; avoid rough actions or pressing hard to prevent embryo death and miscarriage.
