How to Train Cats to Use a Cat Climbing Frame

Many cat owners buy a cat climbing frame for their cats at home to scratch their claws, but often encounter the embarrassment of cats unwilling to use the cat climbing frame. Actually, cats can be trained to use a cat climbing frame. Here, I will introduce how to train cats to use a cat climbing frame.
Scratching is a cat's natural behavior, so stopping it is impossible. For kittens, their claws are their most powerful weapons, so they must regularly shed old keratin to keep them extremely sharp. Additionally, scratching is also to show dominance and to increase scent marking. There are scent glands inside a cat's front paws, so scratching also serves to leave their own scent. Among cat training tasks, controlling scratching is the hardest. Therefore, it should be done before the kitten starts scratching furniture.
Cats have the habit of scratching immediately after waking up, and they like to scratch objects around their cat bed to exercise and relax their front limbs and paws. Therefore, when training their scratching behavior, wooden boards or posts should be placed near the cat bed as much as possible. As the cat grows, increase the size of the wooden posts or boards appropriately, and later you can fix the posts or boards on the wall near the cat bed.
First, prepare a dedicated scratching tool. Although there are many types sold on the market, homemade ones work well too. Place a thick wooden post about 70 cm long and 20 cm in diameter, or a wooden board about 37 cm long and 20 cm wide near the cat bed. Initially, lay it horizontally to make it easier for the kitten to climb up and down and let the cat find the area it prefers to scratch.
If the kitten doesn't scratch, the owner can gently stroke the cat's head with their hand and press down on its head to encourage it to scratch the wooden post or board, but the motion must be gentle. After the cat scratches the post or board, the secretions from the glands on its paws will be transferred onto it. Attracted by the scent of its own secretions, the cat will continue to scratch the post or board.
