How to train cats to not be afraid of water
Siamese
Cats being afraid of water is instinctive. Some cats that never come into contact with water until adulthood will strongly resist bathing, and some cats that have had unpleasant experiences during bathing may become very afraid of water. Since cats’ ancestors mainly lived in desert areas and rarely encountered water, their fur is also very difficult to dry after getting wet. Therefore, to train cats not to be afraid of water, it is necessary to get them accustomed from a young age.
The most direct way to train cats not to fear water is to start exposing them to water from a young age. At the beginning, you can try using a small basin with some water for the cat to play with. To better attract and tease the cat, you can also put some small fish in the basin; be careful not to use big fish, small agile fish that swim will attract the cat’s attention.
At first, do not try to throw the cat directly into the water, as this may make the cat even more tense and afraid of water. Give the cat enough time to play with the water by itself and discover the fun of water. Additionally, when the cat is young, train it to get used to bathing and have more contact with water. Once the pet truly gets used to and likes water, it will no longer be afraid of water. (Source:PetsZone)
