How to train a Siamese cat eager for owner's touch and love

The Siamese cat, as a noble among cats, naturally has a proud temperament. When such a cat gets angry, it cannot be trained at that moment. Therefore, training this kind of cat requires a great deal of patience. The personalities of cats and dogs differ; dogs like to follow their owners, while cats prefer to play on their own. This makes cats harder to train. Let me introduce how to train cats, so let's take a look.

Cats love to scratch things, especially fluffy round objects. If home items are scratched by cats, owners will definitely be very upset. How to train the cat when it does something wrong is the key.

The first rule is to scold immediately on the spot. When it makes a mistake, you should loudly scold it right away with words like "No!" or "Hey!" Of course, the cat does not stop because it understands your words, but because it is startled by the loud noise. If this is done repeatedly, the cat will gradually realize that doing this leads to loud scolding, which is very troublesome, so it will stop. Taking the cat back to the 'crime scene' to lecture after the fact is completely useless, as cats are forgetful creatures. Even if scolded for what they just did, they will not understand why.

The second rule is patient education. It doesn't mean that after scolding today, it is okay tomorrow. Instead, you should always maintain the same patient attitude while criticizing. If you give up halfway, all the previous hard work will be wasted. Thinking "Anyway, it will forgive me soon" will only make the cat become arrogant and careless.

The third rule is absolute no corporal punishment. Hitting the cat casually will cause it to fear the owner and develop an inferiority complex. Since cats are much smaller than humans, hitting them can easily cause injury.

The fourth rule is to give big praise immediately when it behaves well. Although cats cannot understand the owner's words, they clearly recognize the difference between reprimand tones and praise tones. When praised, the cat's mood improves, gradually enhancing the training effect.

Cats have reasons for scratching claws

Scratching is a natural habit for cats, so stopping it completely is impossible. For small cats, the claws are their most powerful weapons, thus they must constantly wear off old layers to keep them sharp. Moreover, scratching is a way to show their authority and spread scent. Cats have scent glands in their front paws, so scratching also marks their territory. Training a cat to use a scratching post is one of the hardest tasks. First, prepare a special scratching tool. Although many types are sold on the market, making one yourself works well. Wrapping a wooden board with strips of cloth is enough. Ideally, prepare several and place them where the cat likes to go. If the cat begins scratching furniture, immediately say "No!" and lead it to the scratching board. Owners can hold its front paws to help it scratch. At first, the cat might make a fuss, but after a few tries, it will patiently use the post. Praise it once it becomes proficient.

Train your cat to coexist peacefully with goldfish, birds, and dogs.

When it approaches the fish tank or birdcage, immediately reprimand it. Cats really like lively creatures like goldfish and birds. Even if it has no intention to eat, seeing slow-swimming goldfish or fluttering birds excites their interest, unknowingly reaching out their paws. Therefore, teach them from the start not to touch by scolding them when they come close. Obedient cats will stop approaching after a few scoldings. They might keep watching but won’t reach out. But most cats do not easily give up such interesting play. When the owner stares intently, the cat obeys, but if the gaze shifts away slightly, it may rush back. In such cases, place the fish tank or birdcage out of the cat's reach, cover the fish tank with a metal net, or hang the birdcage from the ceiling.

Some people keep both cats and dogs. They worry the cat might be attacked because of its small size, while the cat might scratch the dog's eyes out of fear. To prevent this, at the beginning, the owner should hold the cat and let the cat and dog gradually adapt to each other. Once they understand each other’s temperament, dogs and cats can live happily and peacefully together. (Source:PetsZone)
