How to Correct Cats Destroying Plants

Cats are often mischievous; some owners’ spider plants, aloe vera, sensitive plants, and even cacti have not been spared. Small plants are directly pushed off the windowsill, while large plants are either bitten or rolled on. In short, cats are definitely the natural enemies of household plants. Some plants, such as the peace lily, are toxic, and if ingested by cats, can pose great danger. Therefore, enabling cats and plants to coexist peacefully is an important task for us owners.

For cats, jumping high, scratching claws, and chewing on plants are normal behaviors. However, after living with humans, these actions are often interpreted as destructive, which is somewhat unfair. The best solution is not to simply forbid them but to provide appropriate alternatives to meet the cats’ needs.

  Method One:

Hang plants as much as possible or use nets to block them. This can solve some plant survival problems.

  Method Two:

Grow more cat grass: Actually, besides mischief, cats damage plants because they need plant fibers to help vomit hairballs. However, it should be noted that cat grass needs to be planted in soil, without fertilizers or pesticides. Nowadays, there are hydrogel cat grass options, but cat grass in these can smell bad and cats may easily ingest them by mistake. Therefore, do not plant cat grass hydroponically.

  Method Three:

Spray lemon juice: cats dislike the smell of lemon water. Spraying lemon water on plants can help plants escape the "claws" of cats.

  Method Four:

It’s well known that cats fear water, so whenever a cat approaches a plant, use a spray bottle to spray water on the plant. This way, the cat will keep away.

  Method Five:

Interact more with your cat, using toys and games to divert their attention. Animal behavior studies show that an animal’s destructive ability is proportional to its intelligence, so maybe we should be proud of our pet’s intelligence!

Don’t neglect training your cat due to laziness!
