How to Train a Canadian Hairless Cat to Use the Toilet
No matter how cute a Canadian Hairless Cat is, if it defecates or poops casually on the sofa or clothes, its cuteness will be greatly diminished. This is a big misfortune for the cat. If the cat is well trained to use the toilet, the home will be very clean. Cats naturally like cleanliness and are easy to train to use the toilet.
Training a Canadian Hairless Cat to use the toilet should start when it is young, just like humans. At a young age, the Canadian Hairless Cat has a stronger capacity to learn, so properly training the kitten will produce better results. During this period, the cat needs to learn to use the toilet and to relieve itself at designated spots.
Specific training methods:
1. At the beginning, the kitten may urinate and defecate everywhere, so the owner should take its feces and lightly bury it in the litter box. This tells the kitten: it should use the toilet here. During initial training, newspapers can be laid down in the kitten’s activity area just in case.
2. Fifteen minutes after the Canadian Hairless Cat eats, place it in the litter box to remind it to use the toilet. At the start, the litter box should not be more than one inch (2.5CM) high to make it easy for the kitten to enter and exit.
3. If the kitten was brought from someone else’s home, some litter from the original owner’s litter box can be put into the home’s litter box. Then bring the kitten to the litter box; the cat will recognize the smell and know the toilet is here.
4. If the Canadian Hairless Cat always urinates or defecates outside, observe that it usually goes to relatively fixed spots. At this time, the owner can put some litter in a small dish at that spot. The smell of the litter will entice the Canadian Hairless Cat to relieve itself there. The owner can then slowly move this dish daily until it reaches the litter box. During this process, the cat will get used to the litter and develop the habit of using the litter box for elimination.
