Can pet cats be trained? Aren't pet cats those self-centered, high-level creatures who think their owner means nothing? Actually, many pet cats can be simply trained in some skills, which not only makes them cute but also appear more obedient. Owners all hope that their pet cats have at least one special skill. Below are various training methods for pet cats.

  1. Pet Cat Handshake Training Method

Prepare fish or meat slices and other snacks that cats like. Rub some meat scent on the fingers of your right hand, call the cat over, stretch out your right hand to let it smell the scent, and softly say: “Handshake, handshake”. The cat will stretch its head to sniff your hand. Then raise your hand, and the cat will stand and extend its front paw. Take the opportunity to hold the cat’s right paw and say “handshake, handshake”. Use your left hand to give the food to the cat. When training a cat to shake hands with a person, make sure your tone is kind and gentle. After repeating this training for a few days, the cat will master it skillfully. Afterwards, just occasionally use treats to reinforce the training results. Usually, once you say “handshake”, your pet cat will naturally extend its paw to shake hands with you.

  2. Pet Cat Toilet Training Method

First, train your pet cat to have the habit of toileting at scheduled times. Usually, keep the cat litter box in the bathroom with the door closed to prevent the cat from entering arbitrarily, and open the door regularly to let it go toilet. Next, find a small plastic basin that can be stably placed in the toilet bowl, place a small amount of cat litter inside, and let the cat get used to going there. Then gradually reduce the amount of cat litter until there is none at all. Of course, cats still want to dig, so you can replace litter with a small amount of paper scraps, and eventually nothing. When the cat adapts to this method, drill a hole near the edge at the bottom of the small basin so that the cat’s urine can flow out smoothly. For feces, just flush it into the toilet with water. The cat’s toileting is done indoors without odor or scattered litter. The pet cat becomes cuter and the monthly expense of cat litter is saved.

  3. Pet Cat Training Not to Get on the Bed Method

If the pet cat likes to get on the bed or crawl under the quilt during the day, you can pat the cat’s rump and scold it loudly to drive it off the bed. Since cats are very sensitive to their owner’s emotions, repeating this multiple times can change the bad habit of getting on the bed. If this method doesn’t work, the owner can try the following: Prepare 2-4 toy water guns in advance. When the pet cat gets on the bed, the owner can stand where the cat can’t see and spray water at the cat with a water-filled gun. The sudden attack will scare the cat away immediately. After repeated training several times, the cat will no longer get on the bed. It is important not to let the cat discover that the owner is spraying water at it, otherwise this method will fail.

  4. Pet Cat Training Not to Scratch Furniture Method

Before training, prepare a wooden post about 70 cm long and 20 cm thick, fixed upright near the cat’s den, so the cat can scratch it. The wood should be solid. Training should start with kittens. When training, bring the kitten to the wooden post, hold the cat’s two front legs with both hands, and place them on the post, simulating the cat’s scratching action. This will apply the secretion from the cat’s foot glands to the post. After repeated training and the attraction of the secretion’s scent, the cat will go to the post to scratch. Once this habit is formed, it will no longer scratch the furniture, thus protecting the furniture’s cleanliness and appearance.
