Symptoms of cat tapeworm disease: affected cats develop chronic enteritis, presenting symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and indigestion.
Sometimes constipation and diarrhea occur alternately, showing anemia or severe weakness. When the cat expels gravid segments from its body, these segments often attach around the anus, irritating it and causing pain and inflammation.
Treatment: options include
A. Praziquantel (Lai Tiao Ling). Dosage is 150-200 mg per kg of body weight, given orally once. Fast for 12 hours before administration.
B. Pyrantel pamoate. Oral dosage is 15-20 mg per kg body weight, or subcutaneous injection at 2.5-5 mg per kg body weight.
C. Fenbendazole. 55 mg per kg body weight, given orally once.
D. Nitroscanate hydrochloride: 25-50 mg per kg body weight, given orally once; fast for 12 hours before medication, and feed only after 3 hours post-medication.
E. Praziquantel-Piperazine: 125 mg per kg body weight given orally once(Source:PetsZone)
