Why Some Dogs Are Not Sociable
When walking dogs outside and encountering other unfamiliar dogs, we definitely hope our dogs can get along happily with them. But some dogs seem not very sociable—they either do not want to play with other dogs or are unfriendly and may even fight. So, what factors cause these situations?
1. Lack of socialization training
This is actually a very important reason. If your dog always hesitates when facing other dogs, it may be because the owner kept it at home during puppyhood, not allowing it to contact other dogs, resulting in a lack of etiquette for interacting and communicating with dogs.
2. Possibly unpleasant past experiences
This usually happens with dogs that have been abused by previous owners. These dogs generally have a certain level of vigilance towards everything. They feel unfamiliar and fearful towards people and other animals. For such dogs, owners need to give more time and care and gradually try to let them interact with strangers and other dogs.
3. Strong territorial awareness
If a dog is dominant and has strong territorial awareness, the likelihood of unfriendly behavior increases. In this case, owners first need to clarify the dog's and their own status to effectively control their dog and timely stop and criticize unfriendly behaviors.
4. Shy personality
Some dogs do not dare to contact other dogs because they are naturally timid and shy, but this is also a manifestation of lacking social activities. Once the dog becomes familiar, this situation will gradually improve.
5. Physical discomfort
For dogs in poor physical condition, emotions are easier to become irritable, so after some friction, they may feel unhappy. For example, sudden aggression towards other dogs may be due to hypothyroidism. However, if the dog is unwell, we should be able to easily notice it, unless it is some intermittent pain, which is harder to detect.
