The training amount for toy dogs should not be too large. Excessive training may cause muscle strain in the dog and lead to discomfort and other issues. So what should be paid attention to when training toy dogs?

　　Actually, most dog training methods are similar, but depending on the dog's breed, size, and energy level, training methods will have some subtle differences. However, no matter what type of dog it is, the training principles are mostly the same, mainly focusing on encouragement. Do not easily punish the dog. If there is little progress over a long time, then consider whether your training method is problematic.　　Firstly, establishing a good relationship between the dog and the owner is the basic condition for successful training. So if the dog was recently bought, do not rush to train it immediately. First, let the dog build a good relationship with the owner. Interact frequently with the dog, soothe it, and once the dog has a good relationship with you, training will become much easier.

　　Also, when teasing the dog, your attitude should be gentle, your temperament calm, and your behavior normal. Do not shout loudly. For dogs that develop emotional bonds slowly, be patient and do not be impatient. Training should be progressive, from simple to complex, with appropriate rewards and punishments, training with affection so that the dog brings you joy, happiness, and satisfaction.

　　Correct methods should be used during training. Rewards are an important means of successful training, but you must correctly master the reward methods and timing. This mainly includes giving the verbal command "Good," petting, and food rewards. Among these, the verbal command "Good" is the best reward method; it is direct, simple, fast, and effective.

　　Of course, dogs do not understand that "Good" means approval by itself. It is necessary to condition the dog to associate "Good" with rewards. After giving the "Good" command, immediately give a food reward, linking "Good" to the food reward. Repeating this multiple times in training helps the dog establish a conditioned reflex to the "Good" command.

　　When using the "Good" command, use it appropriately and do not overuse it. When the dog exhibits desirable behavior or actions, promptly praise with the "Good" command. If the dog's performance is unsatisfactory, do not reward it, and of course, avoid punishment to prevent fear in the dog.

　　No matter what type of reward, it should not be used too frequently.

　　Praise commands should be timed correctly. Dogs’ memory isn’t very strong; their neurological connections are instantaneous or short-lived. So rewards must be timely. Do not wait a few minutes to give a reward, or the dog will not understand what behavior is being rewarded because the correct action has disappeared. Unlike humans, dogs cannot associate past and present events by reflection.

　　When using the "Good" command, the owner must be consistent inside and out, using a joyful tone and kind, natural facial expressions. If the owner is stiff, uses a high-pitched tone, or shows an expressionless face, the dog will lose the positive effect of the "Good" command.

　　Obedience training should mainly focus on encouragement and try to avoid scolding. If scolded frequently, the dog will ignore the punishment. If hit, the dog may develop fear of the owner and become distant, resulting in poor training effects.

　　Training should combine work and rest, especially for toy dogs. Toy dogs do not have as much energy as medium or large dogs, so after training for a while, let them rest or play for a bit. This prevents the dog from losing interest in training and affecting future sessions.
