We all know that dogs are good partners and friends to humans. Almost everyone has memories of dogs from their childhood. The reason dogs have become one of humans’ favorite pets is not accidental; it is due to dogs’ own advantages. Dogs belong to the phylum Chordata and the family Canidae. There are many breeds, mainly domesticated from wolves.

In daily life, the dogs we see usually have gentle and active personalities. They are lively and intelligent, have a high tolerance towards humans, and a good temper. They can quietly guard beside the elderly, jump around with children, and be wise and clever around adults. It can be said that they can switch freely among different roles.

Dogs have a wide range of foods; they can eat specialized dog food as well as human food, even some fruits. Therefore, if you want to keep a dog, it is relatively simple at least regarding food, without too much trouble. However, many people wonder since dogs can eat fruits, can they also eat grapes? What happens if they do?

Here we must clarify that although dogs can eat fruits, grapes must not be given to dogs casually because dogs eating grapes can lead to poisoning, and in severe cases, it may cause the dog’s death. This is because some substances in grapes can cause dogs to develop acute kidney failure. The onset period is generally between 6 to 7 hours, during which the dog may experience vomiting and diarrhea. Dogs are very intolerant to glycosides and these can react adversely with their bodily functions.

If a dog unfortunately eats grapes at home, you must promptly take the dog to a hospital or pet store to induce vomiting. If the amount ingested is too large, consider gastric lavage or administering activated charcoal for treatment. This process requires careful observation of the dog’s condition. If you notice anything abnormal, treat immediately until the dog’s vital signs return to normal.
