The health of dogs is something owners are especially concerned about. Bringing a dog home is for mutual companionship and enjoyment of life. However, when dogs fall ill, owners often feel heartbroken and regretful, thinking they have been irresponsible and wondering how the dog got sick. Besides common illnesses like runny noses and colds, there is one disease that is the most terrifying and that owners fear the most. That is rabies.

1. How to prevent the occurrence of rabies

dog vaccination

Of course, the key is to vaccinate dogs against rabies annually. The effectiveness of the rabies vaccine lasts about one year, so owners must ensure dogs get the rabies vaccine on time every year. Regular bathing, disinfection, and proper diet can also reduce the occurrence of rabies. Preventing rabies is a safety awareness benefit for both humans and dogs. Vaccinating dogs against rabies is also a responsibility to humanity.

2. What are the obvious signs when dogs have rabies

During the incubation and progression periods of rabies, owners will notice clear signs. Generally, dogs with rabies display abnormal excitement in temperament, liking to attack people and other animals, often being overly aggressive or excessively depressed, running aimlessly, continuous barking, becoming very restless, and having irritable emotions. If disturbed by people or other animals, whether acquaintances or owners, the dog will become agitated and resist.

Externally, dogs infected with rabies show dull eyes, nervousness, tucked tail, significant changes in eating habits, hydrophobia, and excessive saliva. These typical manifestations are warnings to owners to prepare. If dogs display any of these symptoms, please take them to a veterinary hospital promptly for observation.

3. Will rabies imitate a dog’s bark

Rabies, also known as hydrophobia, is life-threatening for both humans and dogs. Dogs with rabies often emit abnormal howling sounds, but if a human unfortunately contracts rabies, the nerves become very sensitive and paralyzed, accompanied by loss of appetite, anxiety, restlessness, irritability, and uncontrollable anger. Humans with rabies do not make barking or howling sounds.

Here is a reminder to everyone: be sure to vaccinate regularly, and take dogs to the pet hospital for regular check-ups. This is the best way to ensure safety for humans and dogs alike. Scientific feeding and care are responsibilities towards both people and dogs.
