What are the Characteristics of Pet Shampoo
Pet Shampoo
Many pet owners have wondered whether pets can use human shampoo and questioned why dogs should not use human shampoo. Here we will introduce the differences between pet shampoo and human shampoo.
Generally speaking, pet shampoo contains fewer irritating chemical ingredients and, most importantly, is more suitable for dogs' skin. Dogs’ skin pH is mildly alkaline, and human shampoos also have an alkaline pH, so they do not neutralize it. Long-term use can damage a dog’s skin; therefore, pet shampoo features a balanced pH.
When bathing dogs, shampoo foam can easily get into their eyes. Human shampoo causes significant irritation if it gets into the eyes, which many owners have personally experienced. Pet shampoo, on the other hand, is relatively milder and does not cause severe irritation.
Additionally, pet shampoos usually have a lighter scent, while some human shampoos have a stronger fragrance, which is not good for dogs with sensitive noses. It can even cause anxiety. Some dogs like to roll on the ground right after a bath to cover up the strong shampoo scent. Therefore, when choosing pet shampoo, it is best to avoid products with overly strong smells, as this does not benefit the dog much and is mainly for human comfort.
