What Are the Causes of Teddy Fading?
Teddy dogs are loved by many for their small and cute appearance and diverse colors, becoming one of the most popular small pets in recent years. However, owners have noticed an issue where many Teddys experience fading. So, what are the causes of Teddy fading? Let’s take a look together.
1. Eating too much salt
A Teddy’s daily diet also affects its coat, especially if it eats too much salt for a long time. Excessive salt intake can’t be “digested” properly by the dog, affecting many aspects, and the coat is one of the first to show effects. It not only becomes coarse but also fades in color; if not improved, the color will only get lighter. Therefore, high-salt foods should be stopped; choose dog foods containing deep-sea fish oil, which includes EPA and DHA to help fix color and effectively remove tear stains. Occasionally feeding egg yolk is also a good choice, as it contains calcium and lecithin (beautifying the coat). With proper nutrition, the Teddy’s coat can become beautiful again!
2. Age issues
Dogs, like humans, naturally develop white hair as they age, which is difficult to reverse. We should ensure the dog gets enough nutrition. For older dogs, many changes happen; we can improve their diet by giving them high-protein natural food and providing a good living environment to ensure they have suitable conditions in all aspects.
3. Genetic factors
Many Teddys are influenced by their parents' inherent traits. If the parents' genes are unstable, the Teddy will inherit some of these, causing its coat color to change or fade/dull at a certain stage of growth. For fading caused by genetics, there’s little that can be changed. What can be done is proper care, maintaining a light diet, and regular grooming. As long as the dog is healthy, that’s what matters.
4. Misusing shampoo
Some people use human shampoo or bath gel to wash Teddy dogs, which is not correct. The pH level of Teddy skin is different from humans, and misuse can cause rough coat texture, fading color, and even skin diseases. When bathing a Teddy, it’s best to use dog-specific shampoo that matches the dog’s skin pH, which is the best choice for them.
5. Being dyed
Teddys come in many colors, and color is one factor that determines their price. There are many unscrupulous sellers in the market who dye dogs to make their coat look darker and shinier to fetch a higher price. Many people don't know this is like human hair dye, and the color will fade after washing. When buying a dog, it’s important to purchase from a reputable kennel. We can also check the consistency of the hair color at the roots and the outside coat, and observe the hair near the ear roots to judge.
