Training Pet Dogs Should Be Tailored to the Dog
When training dogs, different methods can be adopted according to the dog's type, that is, tailored to the dog. This approach is much more effective than training blindly!
1. Excitable Type
Training this type of dog mainly involves gradually cultivating and developing its inhibitory process to adapt to its excitation process. However, when developing its inhibitory ability, avoid impatience or rushing.
For example, when cultivating delayed inhibition ability, the delay time must start from a few seconds initially, then be gradually lengthened, with a combination of long and short intervals. Before cultivating the dog's discriminative inhibition ability, its excitability should be appropriately reduced to facilitate ability development. For example, before training discrimination, give the dog adequate free time or do some basic exercises to balance neurological processes. This type of dog has a strong food response, so during the initial stage of ability development, using food inducement for training is very effective in accelerating the formation and consolidation of conditional reflexes. Moreover, this type of dog can tolerate strong mechanical stimuli; when training basic commands or correcting some bad behaviors, stronger mechanical stimuli can be used.
2. Lively Type
Training this type of dog can achieve good results as long as appropriate methods are used based on its main reaction characteristics. If the training method is improper, it is easy for the dog to develop bad associations.
3. Quiet Type
Training this type of dog should focus on cultivating its excitability and liveliness. Because this type of dog reacts sluggishly, training often requires repeated commands and forced methods to achieve good results. However, avoid issuing different commands quickly and continuously or using conflicting stimuli of excitation and inhibition. For example, after giving the "fetch" command for the dog to retrieve, you cannot immediately order the dog to stop, or the dog will not be able to react immediately and may even cause high nervous tension.
