Three Points to Pay Attention to in Autumn to Prevent Dogs from Catching a Cold

When dogs catch a cold, not only do they feel uncomfortable, but owners also get worried and upset. Therefore, daily care for dogs is very important, especially when autumn arrives, as dogs might easily catch a cold. Below are some reminders for owners to protect their dogs well during autumn!
1. Choose good weather for bathing
In summer, we often bathe dogs quite casually, whenever we want, and sometimes don’t fully dry them, just letting them air dry naturally. You can’t do that in autumn. As the weather gradually cools down in autumn, rainy days become especially cold. If you bathe your dog without fully drying it, then take it out to play on a chilly autumn windy day, your dog has a high chance of catching a cold. Choosing a sunny day to bathe your dog and fully drying it afterward can effectively prevent colds. If you can’t fully dry your dog immediately, don’t take it out to play first, because autumn winds are much cooler than summer winds. After bathing, let your dog stay inside a while before going out, even if it dries naturally, better to do so indoors.
2. Prepare a raincoat to prevent autumn rain
Dog raincoats are more important in autumn than in summer. Every rain brings a chill, and in some places autumn rains are especially frequent, with many cloudy days and constant drizzles. When going out, put a raincoat on your dog to minimize getting wet. Keeping warm helps prevent colds. Especially if your dog has short hair, it should wear a raincoat. If you haven’t prepared one, reduce outdoor walks, quickly finish potty breaks and return home, then dry the dog thoroughly or use a hairdryer to dry it. Don’t let the dog’s skin stay soaked in cold rainwater.
3. Weak dogs need to wear clothes
Small, thin, short-haired dogs like Chihuahuas or Miniature Dobermans have poor cold resistance. Don’t think it’s only necessary to dress them in extremely cold winter. If you usually walk your dog after the sun is out, that’s fine, but if your dog prefers going out early or after sunset, you need to consider whether it’s necessary to dress your dog in windproof clothing based on the day’s weather.
