Things You Should Know About Raising Dogs
Tail docking and ear cropping can be decided according to your own preference

In fact, during the process of raising dogs, we often overlook some quite common-sense issues. These issues may seem useless, but they can play a very important role in the process of raising dogs. Due to the lack of understanding of this knowledge, we may mistakenly regard some normal phenomena as abnormal and messily treat them, which instead seriously affects the health of the dog. Such problems are completely avoidable, so sometimes basic knowledge is quite crucial.

1. Ear cropping and tail docking are not necessary but depend on personal preference

In the past, many dogs were used to help hunters with hunting, and overly long tails could affect their work, so tail docking was chosen. Ear cropping was due to competition requirements. If just raising dogs normally, there is not much need to crop ears or dock tails; just pay attention to regular cleaning.

2. You can dress your dog but remember to clean the clothes

Actually, dressing dogs is not necessary because the clothing's ability to keep warm is not very significant for dogs unless the dog's hair has been shaved; then you can temporarily dress the dog. Of course, for short-haired dogs, wearing clothes may not affect much, but long-haired dogs wearing clothes may cause hair matting. Also, if the clothing is not frequently cleaned, it can easily cause bacterial and parasite infections.

3. Dogs not liking walks might be caused by the owner

Generally, dogs like it when their owners take them out for a walk. However, if every time they are tightly restrained by the leash around the neck during walks, they will feel scared when wearing the leash. You can try putting the leash on when the dog is playing indoors; allow it to wear the leash two to three times a day, each time for fifteen to twenty minutes. Once it gets used to wearing the leash, take it out for walks, but never make the collar too tight. Also, dogs may not be used to going outdoors or to crowded places. If so, you can first carry it to a less crowded place and only then let it walk on the ground.

4. Newborn puppies indeed may not defecate initially

In fact, puppies within the first three weeks after birth do not know how to control their excretory organs, so the mother dog uses her tongue to lick the puppy’s anus to stimulate their excretion and help defecate. However, if the mother dog is not present, the owner should help. Owners can gently massage the puppies’ anus and urethra with wet cotton, which helps them successfully excrete waste.

5. Dogs can also get car sick

Not all dogs will experience car sickness; some dogs are naturally immune to it. If the owner insists on letting the dog ride in a car, first let the dog get familiar with the car environment by allowing it to move inside the stationary vehicle. The primary reason for car sickness is that dogs cannot maintain balance. It is best not to feed the dog in the two hours before the ride and keep it on an empty stomach, which also helps prevent car sickness. If the dog does get car sick during the ride, stop the car temporarily and let the dog get some fresh air outside. Car sickness in dogs can be improved; usually, getting the dog accustomed to the car after several times solves the issue. Also, ensure the dog is settled well in the car during rides; otherwise, if the dog gets scared or too excited, it may distract the driver and cause accidents.
