Taboos for New Dog Owners
Pomeranian (Detailed Introduction)

For new dog owners, if they haven’t done sufficient preparation in advance, many problems may occur during the raising process. Although these issues seem minor, they greatly affect the dog. Therefore, it is important to learn some precautions beforehand. So, what are the taboos for new dog owners? Let’s find out together.

1. Bathing: When the dog first arrives home, it may be dirty and smelly, so some owners might clean their dog thoroughly to make it fresh and fragrant, and then cuddle and play with it. However, this behavior has a great impact on the dog. The dog is not accustomed and is scared of the new environment with weak immunity. Bathing at this time easily causes colds and can lead to deadly diseases like canine distemper. Therefore, do not rush to bathe the dog right after bringing it home. If it is very dirty, you can limit its activity area or use dry bathing methods. In short, don’t wet the dog entirely for a bath.

2. Eating meat and drinking milk: Some owners feel affectionate towards their small dog and want to feed it tasty food, but this is not correct. Dogs, especially puppies, have very fragile stomachs and easily vomit and have diarrhea. Meat and milk are foods that often cause gastrointestinal problems in dogs. Diarrhea during weak health is difficult to treat. So you must be careful.

3. Going out without a leash: Going out without a leash is inherently dangerous. Injuries from fights with other dogs, being hit by cars, or running away often result from not using a leash. For dogs whose behavior you are not very familiar with, going out without a leash means losing control when an emergency occurs. You do not understand the dog’s thoughts, and the dog cannot understand your commands. So if you want to take your new dog out, even if it is uncomfortable, you should never leave the leash behind.

4. Rushing deworming and vaccination: New dogs have not yet adapted well to the unfamiliar environment and generally have weak health. Therefore, do not hastily deworm or vaccinate them at this time, as this may seriously negatively affect their body.

New dog owners must remember these key points and avoid doing anything that could harm the dog’s health. For puppies, health is paramount. Before they adapt to the new environment, every action should be taken with extra care to prevent accidents.
