The Springer Spaniel originates from the United Kingdom. Adult males have a shoulder height of about 51 cm and weigh about 23 kg; females have a height of about 48 cm and weigh about 18 kg. Its body length is slightly greater than its shoulder height. The body is well-proportioned, elegant in bearing, with a long torso, strong and muscular legs. Its sufficiently long legs allow it to move easily. Its structure shows strength, endurance, and liveliness. It is agile and can work at a reasonable speed over rough ground.
The Springer Spaniel is a medium-sized sporting dog with a compact, sturdy body, docked tail, and moderate coat. The limbs, ears, and chest have feathering. The coat of the Springer Spaniel comes in many styles, mainly the following three: black or liver with white markings, or white with black or liver markings; blue or liver roan; tricolor, which includes black, white or liver, white with tan markings, usually appearing on brows, cheeks, inside ears, and under the tail.
The Springer Spaniel has a topcoat and an undercoat. The topcoat is medium-length, flat or wavy, easily distinguishable from the undercoat. The undercoat is short, soft, and dense; the quantity of undercoat varies depending on climate and seasons. The ears, chest, belly, and legs are covered with medium-length and thickness hair. The head, front of forelegs, front of hind legs, and below the hock have short, fine hair. The tail may be trimmed or left with wavy hair.
The Springer Spaniel was originally a wild hunting dog for birds, so it requires a large amount of exercise. It is best to take it for walks 2-3 times a day. Never keep it indoors for long periods, which can cause agitation, dull expression, and even illness.
The Springer Spaniel is gentle, easy to train, and eager to please. These traits make it obedient, which is important for hunters to control it during hunting. Training for this dog is also very important; it cannot be left to develop naturally, otherwise it may develop bad habits of stubbornness and willfulness.
