Some Key Points on Giving Border Collie Deworming Medicine

Choosing Appropriate Deworming Medicine
For Border Collies, we do not need to worry about the choice of deworming medicine just because it is a Collie. In fact, most deworming medicines currently on the market can be used for Border Collies. However, as with other dogs, some related key points should be noted during use.
1. Selection of Deworming Medicine and Dosage
Previously commonly used deworming medicines were tablets, so it is important to pay attention to the dosage. If the given amount is too large, it may easily cause some adverse reactions. Of course, some dogs may show vomiting, lethargy, and other related symptoms even with normal dosing. This is a relatively common situation, and if the dog gradually recovers, basically there will be no problem.
Medications like Heartgard for dogs are determined based on the dog's weight and body size, so as long as the appropriate range is found, there is no need to worry about the dosage, and usually a whole tablet is given. However, it is not recommended for very small dogs.
2. Observing the Dog’s Condition After Use
After use, observe the Border Collie’s poop to check if there are worms or worm eggs inside. Because there are many types of deworming medicines, some are more irritating, and some are relatively less so. Therefore, avoid choosing drugs with high irritation in the future, and see which type of deworming medicine causes fewer side effects when given to the dog.
Generally, adverse symptoms will recover within 1-3 days. If the dog's condition remains abnormal, there may be an existing problem. At this time, it is best to take the dog to the hospital for relevant examinations as soon as possible to prevent worsening of the issue.
