Small Fleas Cause Big Problems

Bichon Frise
Since dogs often "hang out" outside, they can easily be targeted by fleas. Although fleas are small, once infected, dogs feel itchy and owners get headaches. Fleas on dogs can even spread to family members, truly a troublesome problem. If you find fleas on your dog, you must quickly and thoroughly eliminate them.
1. Remove Fleas from Your Dog
There are many ways to remove fleas from dogs nowadays, such as applying drops or spraying flea repellents. These products have very obvious flea removal effects, but since they contain alcohol, dogs with weak constitutions or liver problems should not use them. During use, owners must control the dosage and avoid getting the medicine in the dog's eyes or ears. If there are only a few fleas on the dog, you can buy flea shampoo and apply it during bath time, massaging for 5 minutes. Recently, flea bath products suitable for dogs have appeared on the market — just soak your dog and the fleas will be eliminated. However, this is not suitable for dogs that dislike bathing. If you want to keep fleas away for a long time, flea collars are the best choice. Although they cannot remove all fleas immediately, they can be worn continuously and provide ongoing protection.
2. Thorough Home Cleaning
When dogs get fleas, they can bring them into the home, especially in houses with carpets, so cleaning is essential. Vacuum the carpets multiple times and thoroughly clean corners and cluttered areas. If you are still worried, you can use flea-killing chemicals. But keep these away from dogs and family members because many flea products can be harmful to both dogs and humans. If the dog has a habit of getting on the bed, the owner should replace all pillowcases, sheets, and so on.
3. Pay Attention to Prevention
When taking your dog outside, the owner should pay close attention to the dog's activities—avoid letting them play with stray cats or dogs, and keep them away from garbage and dirty places. At home, owners can brush their dog’s fur often; this not only strengthens the bond between owner and dog but also helps detect fleas or other parasites early. Once infection is confirmed, owners should resolve it immediately to prevent future problems.
