Many people think that human food is very nutritious or are afraid of wasting or want to save time, so they feed their dogs leftover meals. However, leftover meals often contain sharp fish bones or bones, which can cause oral injuries to the Shar Pei and may lead to infections in severe cases. So for the safety of your Shar Pei, first do not be lazy and feed them leftovers. Second, the food given to Shar Peis, whether animal food, grain food, or vegetables, should be cleaned and heated to prevent poisoning. Especially in summer, food is more likely to spoil and go bad.
2. Foods Shar Peis Cannot Eat
1. Do not feed Shar Peis squid, shellfish, shiitake mushrooms, and other foods that are hard to digest, or it may cause diarrhea or vomiting.
2. Never let Shar Peis eat chocolate, as it can cause urinary incontinence, convulsions, epilepsy, and other symptoms in severe cases.
3. Onions contain toxins that dissolve red blood cells and can cause hematuria or anemia poisoning symptoms after ingestion.
4. Ginger, curry powder, chili, and other stimulating spices should not be given to dogs, as they are too irritating to the digestive tract.
5. Shar Pei puppies must not be fed ham sausages, sausages, or dried fish strips containing preservatives and colorants.
6. Some dogs get diarrhea immediately after drinking milk; in such cases, you can feed your little Shar Pei yogurt.
3. Vegetables Shar Peis Cannot Eat Vegetables,
Peanuts: Both are foods that are hard to digest and may cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. Peanut butter is an exception, but if feeding peanut butter, choose organic sugar-free peanut butter.
Onions: Onions destroy dogs' red blood cells and can cause anemia. Some dogs may show hematuria after eating these foods. Therefore, food such as hamburgers, curry, and sauce soups containing onions or scallions should not be given to dogs.
Mushrooms: Commercial edible shiitake mushrooms, button mushrooms, etc. are harmless to dogs. However, avoid letting dogs eat mushrooms to prevent forming the habit of eating mushrooms and mistakenly eating poisonous mushrooms in the wild.
4. Fruits Shar Peis Cannot Eat
Persimmons: Persimmon seeds can cause intestinal obstruction and enteritis.
Grapes: Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs.
Tomatoes: Tomatoes can cause convulsions and arrhythmias. However, this issue is debatable since some high-quality dog foods contain tomatoes.
