Redbone Coonhound Breed Introduction
Redbone Coonhound (Detailed Introduction)
The Redbone Coonhound, originally from the United States and originating in the 19th century, was initially used for hunting raccoons. Nowadays, many people keep it as a companion dog. Raccoon hunting dogs all have hunting instincts, and they are easily trained as scent hounds or to chase prey fleeing up trees. However, among all coonhounds, the Redbone Coonhound is considered to be a relatively well-rounded and complete breed.
In the southern U.S. state of Georgia, raccoons are also found. Locals were aware of specialized dogs for hunting raccoons, so they conducted breeding experiments hoping to cultivate a new local coonhound breed. Eventually, by crossing bloodhounds with ancient Irish hounds, they successfully bred the Redbone Coonhound, which surpasses its predecessors.
