Pet Owners Raising Schnauzers Must Pay Attention to These Points
Schnauzers have a lively and cheerful personality, a small and cute appearance, and a high intelligence level, making training relatively easy. In addition, Schnauzers are relatively simple dogs to raise, so they are a popular choice among urban pet enthusiasts. Although we mentioned that raising Schnauzers is relatively easy, there are still some things to pay attention to during the raising process. Let's take a look together.
1. Feeding leftovers.
Never feed your dog whatever you eat. Do not feed it leftovers. Don’t let your beloved dog become a harmed dog. Human food is often oily or overly salty, which can cause tear stains on dogs, hair loss, and various skin diseases. Therefore, for the health of your dog, its main food should be dog food, and choosing good-quality dog food is very important. Try to select particularly mild, nutritious, and natural dog food.
2. Feeding raw eggs.
Never feed Schnauzers raw eggs. Feeding raw eggs can cause severe hair loss and possible bone deformities. We know raw eggs contain special bacteria that can easily make dogs sick. So eggs must be cooked before feeding, and try to feed dogs less egg whites because egg whites are very difficult to digest.
3. Feeding too much.
Schnauzers eat very quickly, usually finishing in a few minutes. After eating, they will look at you pitifully as if wanting a little more. At this time, many pet owners give them extra food, but doing this frequently can harm their stomach. Their stomach capacity is naturally small, so there’s no need to feed them too much at once. Feed small amounts multiple times a day!
4. Feeding bones to dogs.
As an owner, do not feed Schnauzers various bones, especially small sharp bones. These small bones can easily pierce their esophagus after swallowing, causing bleeding in severe cases. If you want to feed bones, be sure to choose large bones from pigs, cows, or sheep, which can help grind teeth and supplement calcium. You can also buy some special teeth-grinding and calcium-supplementing foods for them.
5. Frequent bathing.
Do not bathe your dog frequently just because it feels hot. This is very wrong because Schnauzers naturally have no sweat glands, and frequent bathing can damage their skin and cause skin diseases. In the summer, bathing a Schnauzer a few times every few weeks is enough. However, you can brush their fur daily to keep it dry, which helps with blood circulation.
