Naples Mastiff Care Knowledge
Naples Mastiff (Detailed Introduction)

The Naples Mastiff has a special mouth that often drools, requiring not only large expenses for raising but also regular cleaning care. This dog loves children very much and gets along well with them, making it suitable as a companion dog.
Summer breeds mosquitoes and flies, and food is prone to spoilage. When raising a Naples Mastiff, it is necessary to adhere to the "four fixed" principles of fixed time, fixed quantity, fixed quality, and fixed temperature. The hot and humid summer requires keeping the dog fed individually, no leftovers, and no mixed or shared food bowls. Owners should take the following preventive measures:
  1. Summer temperatures are high, especially in August, and during this time the Naples Mastiff's winter coat hasn't completely shed, similar to a person wearing a cotton jacket in summer. Therefore, it is necessary to frequently brush off old hair to dissipate heat and prevent heatstroke.
  2. Try to reduce the Naples Mastiff's activity in summer and find a shady, ventilated place out of direct sunlight for the dog to rest comfortably. Additionally, if the dog shows rapid breathing, eye discharge, dry or swollen nose leathery skin, dry stools, or yellow urine, it indicates it is suffering from the heat.
  3. Food preparation should adapt to summer characteristics, ensuring drinking water is supplied and frequently changed to keep it clean. Especially for liquid diets, avoid overheating or spoilage to prevent food poisoning and diarrhea.
  4. If the dog experiences difficulty breathing, elevated body temperature, hot skin to the touch, loss of appetite or refusal to eat, it indicates heatstroke. At this time, immediately cool the dog down, rinse the kennel floor and environment with cool water, apply wet cool towels around the neck, and seek further veterinary treatment. In humid southern regions, be especially vigilant during hot days—dogs lying on damp ground for long periods may develop arthritis and dermatitis.
Training: Obedience training should start early. Trainers must be confident and strict.
Exercise: Although a large dog, maintaining the average amount of training is sufficient. Daily short walks help maintain its physique.
