Morphological Characteristics of the West Highland White Terrier
West Highland Terrier
The West Highland is small in size, but its physique is very strong and compact, with ample bone and good body balance. Viewed from the front, it shows a rounded appearance, proportional to the body. The expression is full of curiosity and looks lively. The ideal shoulder height is about 10-11 inches.
Their eyes are medium-sized, spaced relatively wide apart, almond-shaped, dark brown, set deep, looking alert and intelligent. The eye rims are black. The ears are small and erect, located at the edges on both sides of the top of the head, with pointed tips. The nose is large and black.
The neck is muscular; whether standing or walking, the topline remains flat and level; the body is compact and strong; the waist is short, wide, and solid; the forelegs are muscular, with sturdy bones, relatively short, straight legs covered with dense, short, hard hair; the thighs are very muscular.
The tail is relatively short and shaped like a carrot. When the dog stands, the tail is erect and covered with hard hair, without feathering. The root of the tail is set high, so the spine does not slope downwards.
The coat is pure white, hard, and straight. Therefore, it requires regular grooming. The gait is free, straight, composed, yet powerful. From the front view, the rear legs are not parallel to each other.
