Russian Wolfhound (detailed introduction) is a sturdy large dog. Male Russian Wolfhounds generally have a shoulder height of 75.0-85.0 cm, females 68.0-78.0 cm. The head is slightly rounded and arched, long and narrow; the teeth are strong and neat, with a scissors or pincer bite.
The dog’s nose leather is large and black; ears are small with good texture, inclined backwards, resting against the neck when relaxed, ear tips hang backward, ears perk up when moving; eyes have dark eye rims, with a gentle expression.
The neck is clean, with no loose skin on the throat; the chest is narrow but very deep; the back slightly rises toward the loin, forming a graceful curve; loin muscles are very developed and noticeably lifted. The forelimbs have straight and slightly flat bones; feet are hare-shaped, toes compact, pads thick; hind limbs are long and muscular, and from behind, the hind legs are parallel to each other; tail is long and placed low, hanging in a graceful arc.
The coat is long and soft, wavy or curly. Hair on the head, ears, and front of forelimbs is short and smooth; neck’s mane hair is thick; hindquarters and tail have abundant plume-like feathering. The coat usually has a rich variety of colors and requires attention in grooming.
When running fast, the Russian Wolfhound’s paws gather toward the body’s midline. From the side view, due to proper angles of the stifle and hock joints, the dog has strong driving force and extended strides, appearing relaxed, powerful, and graceful overall.
