The ideal height of the Icelandic Sheepdog should be 31cm~41cm; the ideal weight should be 9kg~14kg. This dog has a very high exercise demand and is relatively troublesome to care for, so it is not suitable to be kept in the city.

【Appearance】
The head structure is solid with tight skin. The skull is slightly longer than the muzzle. The head is triangular both viewed from the top and the side. The nose is black or dark brown. The muzzle is well-developed with a straight nasal bridge. The lips are black or dark brown and close tightly. The eyes are medium-sized, almond-shaped, dark brown. The ears are erect, medium-sized, triangular with rounded tips, and turn sensitively in response to sounds. The neck is of medium length, clearly muscular, and skin is tight. The body is sturdy with a straight, strong back and well-developed muscles. The hips are moderately short and wide. The chest is deep and broad. The abdomen is slightly tucked up. The tail root is set high and curled on the back. The forelimbs are straight; the hind limbs have wide thighs with well-developed muscles. The feet are oval, slightly arched, and compact with well-developed pads. The coat is double-layered, thick, with two types: short-haired and long-haired, but both types share the following features: outer hair is rather coarse and there is a thick soft undercoat. The hair on the face, top of the head, ears, and front legs is shorter; hair on the neck, chest, and back of the legs is longer. Colors vary in shades of brown: from pale yellow to reddish brown and dark brown (chocolate), gray, black, often accompanied by white patches.
