Is it normal for Poodles to have tear stains? In most cases, it is normal
With the improvement of people's living standards, many keep some pets at home to increase life’s joy. The most popular pets in families now are dogs, which come in many breeds. Among them, Poodles are loved by many due to their cute appearance. However, when raising Poodles, we often find that their eyes always have tear stains. So is this situation normal? What should be done if dogs have tear stains?
First, Poodle owners should know that tear stains in Poodles are a normal phenomenon, because Poodles are naturally a breed with relatively developed tear glands, making tear stains easy to appear. However, if a dog has tear stains for a long time, it not only affects the dog’s appearance but also its health. When a dog has tear stains, its eyes are prone to bacterial infections, so we still need to treat the dog’s tear stains.
First, we should use a wet towel dipped in warm water to gently wipe the dog’s tear stains clean. Especially in the eye sockets, where many bacteria hide, so we need to wipe several times. After wiping clean with the wet towel, we should use a small amount of saline solution to wipe the dog’s eyes. This can prevent dryness of the dog’s eyes and also stop excessive eye discharge that causes tear stains.
In daily life, we should frequently trim the hair around the dog’s eyes because if the hair around a Poodle’s eyes is too long, it facilitates bacterial growth. Excessive bacterial growth easily causes tear stains and is harmful to the dog’s health. We should also often give the dog eye massages, which not only effectively prevents tear stains but also enhances the bond between the dog and us. Regarding the dog’s diet, we should give it foods high in vitamin C, which also effectively reduces the formation of tear stains.
